‘Poppies and forget-me-nots’
Friday the 9th of November 2018 will be a busy day and a special Churches Together in Runcorn Remembrance event.

St Johns Weston will be the host church. Inside the church will be a display of poppies that will cause us to stop and reflect.

During the day upwards of 100 children from preschool, to secondary age will come to share a simple time of remembrance of the past and hope for the future. They will sit alongside veterans of the armed forces.

Together children, teenagers and the not so young will move from the church and with poppies made in the schools and churches to plant a field of poppies on the grass slope.

In the evening, army and air force cadets will act as stewards for our next event. This will be where the churches and wider community come together to remember the sacrifice and loss of the First World War. We will recall that conflict is not confined to one period in history. We will hear of the bravery and kindness that can be found in the bleakest of times. Others will help us to understand the situation of conflict in the modern world.

This will not be a sad occasion instead through words and music, and in singing together and praying together we will enjoy each other’s company.

We want to make an impact that will be remembered. We will collect photographs and make a book of our event ‘Poppies and Forget-me-nots’ to be lasting memory that we can look at over yet more tea and cake!

Christmas market – We are holding our popular Christmas market on Saturday 17th November in St John’s. Come along and stock up on presents for all the family. Refreshments are available all day and the children will love our Christmas grotto. The market will also be open on the evening of Friday 16th for those who appreciate a quieter atmosphere.
